Tenet: Mr. President, this is a slam dunk case.

I haven’t been paying a lot of attention to the Pat Tillman story. I have noted some of the particulars – that Tillman was an extraordinarily talented football player who left the NFL to enlist in the Army. He was also killed in Iraq this week. By way of Reason’s Hit and Run I chanced to read this Sports Illustrated article: SI.com – Writers – Tim Layden: Remembering Pat Tillman – Friday April 23, 2004 2:35PM

I guess what this article reminds me is that there are hundreds and thousands of decent and honorable individuals in Iraq. It is too easy to spend their lives when we think of them collectively. Instead, read this article. Or go here and pick a name from the casualty list. Think about that person and ask yourself – is this how I want to spend this person’s life? Is what we’ve gained in Iraq worth the loss of this individual’s life?

Today, five more individuals were killed by a rocket attack, bringing the total of dead among coalition forces to 817. Thousands have been injured since combat operations started over a year ago. And there is no end in sight to our military involvement.
