Oh, that inconvenient Bill of Rights
Wired News: S.F.: If You’re Asked, Don’t Tell reports that San Francisco is presenting a ballot initiative that would offer citizens some protection from the USA Patriot Act. I find it questionable whether a local government could trump the Federal government, yet it’s interesting to watch the growing response in favor of re-asserting the value of the Fourth Amendment. #
“Three states and 256 counties and municipalities have passed resolutions condemning the Patriot Act, which was rushed through Congress in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The federal government says it needs the expanded powers granted by the act to prevent future attacks, but critics say the legislation erodes basic freedoms protected by the Constitution.” #Safe Prediction of the Week: We haven’t heard the last of this one. # #
