<description>For me, it's all about two things: search and tags. I'm using my Gmail account for all my mailing lists, so every message gets filtered and tagged as it arrives. Makes it a snap to look up, say, all wiki emails that talk about hosting providers.

Also, since you can attach multiple tags to each email, you don't have to choose just one "box" for your messages. You might want a message to be under both the "blog" and "wiki" category, and maybe under "urgent" as well. Gmail handles that.

That said, the service probably isn't for everyone. It's not going to replace my individual email account. Just gives me another alternative.

<description>If one already has an ISP with a decent mail system (dot-mac) what would be the/an advantage of gmail? I've got storage on my dot-mac mail server that I'm nowhere near filling (it's 128 meg - ratio'd against my iDisk storage). I'm trying to find a reason to want to play but so far haven't found a compelling reason other than to notch a bedpost or two.
