You live within 5 miles of downtown, CapHill, 1stHill, and Queen Anne – despite the fact that they are all pretty much “across the water” from you. That points out one of the weaknesses of the meme – unless one lives in a “grid” city, the relationship fails to hold up. I’m a better example, 10 Starbucks from where I am in Central WSeattle – the better news is there are over 12 indie coffee shops within 3 miles of me – and 3 within walking distance including Ladro and Casablanca. BTW, I was surprised to learn there’s a Starbucks in Georgetown I was totally unaware of, I use the drive-through indie at 4th & Michigan.
Too right about the indie coffee shops. My favorite is actually Java Bean over on Avalon Way, just next to the bridge.
You know, when I moved out from Orlando, I settled first in North Bend. I never could get over the fact that a town of under 3,000 people had 5 drive-up coffee stands and one more you could walk up to!
